Service Description

GTA is exited to bring a new product to the River Guiding world. We are dedicated to only the best in what is available and the best options for your time and money. Our River Guide 2 product is here for those who have an introduction to the skills are entry level guides with either River Guide 1 through a post secondary Adventure Tourism program or have at least two years experience as a river guide. The following certifications are required -Wilderness Advanced First Aid (40hours) -Swift Water Rescue level 2 or higher -Intro to Canoe Skills (previous canoe/kayak skills may be considered) -PROAA, IRF, BCROA Raft Guide Certification. The goal for us is to set you up to work internationally or to be able to step into any role as a expedition guide, to take on leadership roles, manage emergencies in remote settings and to better understand daily requirements of commercial operations. Certifications you will receive. -Swift Water Rescue Responder -Intro to Kayak (5 days Kayak skills with an option to pest as an instructor) Kayak Skills are necessary for Raft Guides in order to provide safety. -Canoe Instructor (Paddle Canada Tandem Instructor Intermediate or instructor) -Intro to solo canoe (prerequisite for Paddle Canada Solo Canoe Instructor) it is our consideration that all Canoe guides should be able to show competency in a solo canoe. -Wilderness First Responder Recertification or Bridge. Skill development areas that we will target: -Planning and logistics -Client management and care -Multi day food (meal prep, food handling, cooking) -Safety and prevention; managing challenges and planning for mitigation -Flight awareness: orientation to Fixed Wing and Rotary Wing Aircraft, Operating in and around Fixed Wing and Rotary Winged Aircraft. -Physical fitness and managing stressors of expeditions; Client care, Guide care. -Physiological fitness Understanding the stressors of managing expeditions and daily operations. Managing emergencies and the fallout. Caring for team members and clients post incident. Understanding hyper and hypo vigilance. Schedule: A full month of back to back training June 2-7 Swift Water Responder June 8 Day off June 9-13 Intro to Kayak/Instructor June 14 & 15 Planning Packing. June 16 depart for Wind River Yukon. June 18 arrive Whitehorse June 19 Arrive Mayo Fly to McCluskey. 11 Days on Wind River. Complete Paddle Canada Tandem Instructor course while descending river. Evening learning sessions.
