The Kootenay River: A Beloved Local Gem

The Kootenay River is cherished by our river community for its natural beauty and abundant wildlife. This free-flowing mountain river offers thrilling white water adventures with challenging wave trains and rock gardens, interspersed with calm stretches. Explore deep canyons, waterfalls, and spot eagles while enjoying ample fishing opportunities.

For those with less experience, training is provided as part of the trip. The first day may include skill-building sessions on flat water in the morning and river practice in the afternoon. Topics covered include self-rescue, companion rescue, stroke enhancement, maneuvers, and river navigation strategies.

To cater to families or individuals needing extra support, raft assistance is available. An additional raft can accommodate up to four children under 13 or two adults, with the cost of an extra guide added to the base price.

The starting location of the trip will vary based on whether the group opts for the training day. Each day promises a mix of white water excitement, stunning landscapes, and well-equipped campsites.

  • Brazeau   Helicopter  Expedition   8 days

Embark on an Adventure in One of the Last Truly Remote Mountain Rivers

Discover a river within half a day's drive from Calgary or Edmonton that offers a unique and challenging experience. This river journey consists of three distinct phases, starting with continuous white water and culminating in a breathtaking canyon with smooth rock waterfalls. Keep an eye out for wildlife such as bears, moose, deer, elk, and beavers along the way.

Details of the Trip:This raft-based trip consists of 4 phases

    •  Due to the remote location, a helicopter is necessary for this extended journey. Enjoy a short flight from our starting point to the launch site, relax, and snack while we prepare our camp.

    • Embark on the river trip in the incredible Brazeau Canyon provincial Wild Land Park.

    • Enjoy three days of white-water excitement

    • As we leave the Canyon on day five watch for wildlife such as Black Bears, Moose and Beaver through the braids of open Boreal landscape.

    • Finish day eight with a leisurely cruse through Brazeau reservoir.

    Trip Highlights:

    • First three days feature challenging white water (up to class 3), canyons, slot canyon side hikes, and waterfalls

    • Encounter pushy corners, wave trains, and ledge features offering thrilling paddling opportunities

    • Next three days present more complex braided channels with increased challenges

    • Conclude with a scenic paddle across Brazeau reservoir on the final day
